The Problem
Too many young people in Puerto Rico grow up without support, mentorship, or a safe place to grow.
Some come from low-income homes.
Some come from unstable family situations.
Some are trying to stay out of trouble.
Some feel invisible in a system that forgot them.
Without guidance, youth fall into:
-Dropping out
-Depression
-Street environments
-No confidence or direction
-No access to real skills or opportunities
No young person should feel like their future is already decided.
OUR SOLUTION
Dos Abuelas Cares gives youth a safe, uplifting space where they learn real culinary skills that build real futures.
From knife skills to sanitation, from seasoning to plating, from teamwork to discipline — we train youth the same way professional kitchens operate.
They learn:
-How to cook with confidence
-How to work clean and organized
-How to think creatively with food
-How to build leadership and discipline
-How to express themselves through culture and sabor
Students walk in shy.
They walk out proud, skilled, and believing in themselves for the first time.
WHY IT MATTERS?
Cooking is more than a skill — it’s healing.
It gives youth:
Confidence, purpose, structure, respect for themselves a sense of belonging.
A path into restaurants, catering, and entrepreneurship
Some of these kids never hear “I believe in you.”
In our kitchen, they hear it every day.
When you invest in one young chef, you uplift a whole family and a whole community.
